On Thursday, Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar criticized the Maharashtra government for its handling of student protests over NEET paper leaks in Nagpur. Wadettiwar urged the government to meet the students’ demands immediately, instead of using force to suppress their peaceful protests. He emphasized that the future of students is a serious issue that requires empathy and understanding from the government. The Congress leader also questioned the Maharashtra Police’s motto, ‘Sadrashanay Khalanigrahanay’, given their threats to plant narcotics on student protesters. Wadettiwar asked where the police obtained the narcotics and why they were using such tactics to intimidate students.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has voiced strong support for the students, and the party has launched statewide demonstrations, with parents participating in protests across the state. Wadettiwar called on the central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the state administration, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, to listen to public sentiment and take constructive steps to resolve the students’ grievances. He alleged that the government is trying to brutally crush the movement instead of initiating dialogue. The Congress leader also highlighted the issue of paper leaks, which has affected lakhs of students over the last decade, and emphasized the need for transparency and credibility in examination procedures.
Wadettiwar also criticized the Maharashtra government for inflating figures regarding farm loan waivers, which has exposed the cheating of farmers. He demanded immediate transparency from the administration on the matter. Earlier, Maharashtra Congress party leaders had launched a protest against the BJP, condemning the lathi charge on protesting students and the treatment of Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. The protest, led by Congress State President Harshwardhan Sapkal, saw the participation of several office-bearers and prominent leaders.
