On June 22, in Udupi, Prof. Phaniraj, a prominent thinker from Udupi Sahabalve Sangathan, strongly condemned the central government, stating it has no regard for the people, democracy, or the constitution. He was speaking at a protest meeting near the city’s Old Bus Stand, which was organized by Sahabalve, Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (Ambedkar Vada), SIO, and Udupi District Solidarity Youth Movement. The protest aimed to denounce the police brutality against students and youth who were demonstrating against the NEET scam in New Delhi. Despite efforts to disperse the crowd, 40,000 students gathered again in Jantarmantar on the night of June 21, showcasing their determination to continue the protest. Prof. Phaniraj urged all Indian citizens to protest in every town, emphasizing the need to uphold democracy and the constitution. The protest in Udupi was attended by various individuals, including Ashwath Singh, a student from Manipal who shared his experience of police brutality during the protest at Jantar Mantar on June 20. Other participants included Samwarth Saheel, Hussain Kodibengre, Sundar Master, Ayan Malpe, Muhammad Moula, Ismail Katpadi, Shyamraj Birti, Manjunath Giliyaru, Haifa, Aziz Udyavara, Nisar Udupi, Manjunath Balkudru, Humera Karkala, and Sunil D. Bangera.
