The Belthangady court has extended the police custody for four of the seven individuals arrested in connection with a counterfeit currency operation unearthed in Adenja, Kaniyur village. The remaining three accused have been remanded to judicial custody until August 1, following their appearance before the court on July 21.
Those remanded to police custody until July 26 include Ibrahim, a resident of Bappalige in Puttur Kasaba village; Sandeep Pundalik Sholambi from Marakawada in Haliyal taluk, Uttara Kannada district; Sirajuddin of Uruvalu; and Irshad, a resident of Puttila. Meanwhile, Nabhas from Amur in Kasaragod district, Salman Faris of Olomogru in Puttur taluk, and Sharif, a resident of Changula in Kasaragod, will remain in judicial custody until August 1.
Authorities initially apprehended the seven individuals after a police team, acting on credible information, raided a building in Adenja on the night of July 15. The operation led to the seizure of one 500-rupee note, 21 A-4 size sheets designed to resemble 500-rupee notes, a computer, a xerox machine, various seals, and other related items. Uppinangady Police Station registered a case under Cr. No: 103/2026, Section: 178 BNS-2023.
The Uppinangady police produced the accused before the Belthangady court on the evening of July 16, securing their initial remand to police custody until July 21. Upon the expiry of this period, they reappeared in court, where APP Divyaraj Hegde represented the prosecution. Police investigations suggest the accused procured materials for manufacturing counterfeit notes from outside the state, prompting suspicions of a larger, active network operating in several parts of the country. Further interrogation of the accused is expected to yield additional information.
