Over 1,200 people underwent comprehensive cardiac evaluations at the Indian Nawayath Forum's "One Heart, One Life" free Mega Heart Check-up Camp in Bhatkal, which took place from a recent Friday to Sunday. The camp, featuring leading cardiologists and advanced screening facilities, found that nearly 60% of those screened had elevated cholesterol levels, including women and children. Dr. Ali Faizal, a renowned cardiologist from Kozhikode, emphasized the need for healthier dietary habits among Bhatkal residents, citing the town's relatively prosperous status and high consumption of cholesterol-rich foods.
Dr. Faizal also stressed the urgent need for a dedicated Cardiac Emergency Centre in Bhatkal, capable of providing immediate treatment to heart patients. Currently, patients suffering cardiac emergencies are referred to Mangaluru or Kozhikode, resulting in the loss of precious time during the critical "golden hour" when prompt medical intervention can save lives. The camp was a significant community healthcare initiative, with over 1,000 individuals undergoing free blood tests beforehand. Nearly 700 participants were screened on the first day, with around 70 identified for detailed evaluation by cardiologists on the second day.
Camp convener Ghufran Lanka reported that of the 70 patients examined in detail, some were prescribed medication while others were advised to adopt healthier dietary and lifestyle practices. The camp featured the services of Dr. Yusuf Kumble, Dr. Ali Faizal, and Dr. Salman Salahuddin, who conducted consultations and offered recommendations on strengthening community-based cardiac care. INF President Aftab Husain Kola and General Secretary Adil Nagarmat expressed satisfaction with the camp's success, citing the overwhelming public response and the integration of artificial intelligence with the expertise of leading physicians.
