On Saturday, July 18, 2026, the 72nd National Film Awards announced its winners, with actor Sanjay Mishra taking home the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in Bhakshak. Mishra played the character of Bhaskar Sinha, a veteran cameraman, in the film. The National Film Awards, established in 1954, recognize artistic and technical merit in the Indian film industry. Sanjay Mishra expressed his gratitude to the committee and the entire Bhakshak team, stating that the news of the National Award touched his heart, especially since it came from the Press Information Bureau, where his late father used to work. Mishra also acknowledged the directors, producers, writers, technicians, and fellow actors he has worked with, as well as the audience who have supported his work over the years. The film Bhakshak, directed by Pulkit and released on February 9, 2024, features Mishra as a loyal and seasoned cameraman working alongside investigative journalist Vaishali Singh, played by Bhumi Pednekar. The National Film Awards are administered by the National Film Development Corporation and recognize films certified by the Central Board of Film Certification between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024. With this win, Sanjay Mishra has solidified his position as a talented actor in the Indian film industry.
