On July 17, Indian audiences flocked to theaters to witness the cinematic spectacle that is Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, with fans traveling from far and wide to catch the film in its preferred IMAX 15/70 format. The excitement surrounding the movie has been palpable, with IMAX tickets priced as high as Rs 3,100 selling out within hours of bookings opening. Nolan, along with lead actors Matt Damon and Tom Holland, made a stop in India as part of the film’s global promotional tour, further fueling the hype. As the movie hit theaters, trade expert and film producer Girish Johar predicted an opening day collection of between Rs 15 crore and Rs 20 crore gross in India. Early estimates from Sacnilk indicate that The Odyssey has collected Rs 0.69 crore (India net) so far, with 1,318 shows running nationwide and an India gross collection of Rs 0.81 crore. These figures are expected to rise significantly once late-night shows and complete nationwide collections are accounted for. The film is projected to earn over $200 million globally during its opening weekend, with $80 million to $100 million expected from North America and $110 million from international markets. The Odyssey, based on Homer’s Greek epic, stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, alongside Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and other notable actors. With its promising start in India and expected spectacular worldwide opening, The Odyssey is poised to become one of the biggest films of the year.
