On June 13, the Udupi District Akshar Dasoha Employees Union staged a protest in front of the District Collector’s office in Udupi. The demonstration was part of a state-wide struggle against the government’s decision to hand over projects to private organizations without increasing grants for the Akshar Dasoha project. CITU State General Secretary S. Varalakshmi participated in the protest. The union submitted a request to the deputy director of the Udupi district education department on Friday, outlining major demands. These include increasing the salary to Rs 7,000 as per the election promise, issuing a circular for six hours of work, and enforcing health insurance. The union also demanded a joint account for the chief cook and adequate funding for the MDM scheme. Other demands included a monthly pension of Rs 10,000 for retired employees and the implementation of arrears of Idugantu facility. The union called for well-equipped kitchen facilities in schools and a clean and safe environment. They also demanded that the Akshara Dasoha Scheme be continued under the Education Department without privatization. District General Secretary Sunanda, District Secretaries Ratna and Manjula, and CITU District Treasurer Kaviraj S. Kanchan were present during the submission of the request.
