On Thursday, Israeli intelligence warned the United States about a fresh Iranian plot to assassinate President Donald Trump, as reported by The Wall Street Journal and CNN. This warning was revealed just hours before Trump publicly stated that he is Tehran’s number one target. According to The Wall Street Journal, the Israelis shared intelligence with Washington indicating that Iran is considering a new plan to assassinate Trump, which would mark a significant escalation in the confrontation between the two countries.
CNN reported that Israel passed the warning to US officials, although the United States had not independently verified the intelligence before receiving the Israeli assessment. When asked about the reports, the White House referred to Trump’s remarks at the NATO summit in Ankara, where he acknowledged being Tehran’s principal target. Trump stated, I’m number one on the kill list for Iran, and I’m doing my job.
Trump made similar comments during a meeting with NATO Secretary General, stating that Iran wants to take out the US leader. He also said that he has been lucky so far, but that may not last long. The President linked the threats to his administration’s efforts to dismantle Iran’s nuclear and military capabilities, stating that they have to be stopped.
