On Friday, July 3, the Telangana Police submitted a counter affidavit to the Telangana High Court, detailing the serious allegations against Bandi Sai Bageerath, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar. According to the police, Bageerath had been in a relationship with a minor since 2025 and had emotionally manipulated and sexually abused her multiple times. The alleged crimes took place at various locations, including Sriram Gardens and Golf Edge Apartments at Nanakramguda. Inspector K Vijayvardhan of the Pet Basheerabad Police Station filed the counter affidavit, which stated that the police had registered the crime and initiated an investigation under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The police complaint was filed after the victim’s mother reported the incident, and the child underwent a medical examination on May 9. The police have established the victim’s age as 17 years through educational records. Given the seriousness of the allegations and the evidence available, the police have modified the charges to include relevant sections of the POCSO Act and BNS. The police have urged the High Court to dismiss the bail petition, citing the potential impact on the investigation and witnesses. Bageerath was taken into custody in May and had previously been granted interim bail by a Special POCSO Court. The Telangana High Court has deferred the bail plea hearing to July 8.
