PM Modi afraid to speak in Parliament because of his failure on Manipur issue: Congress
New Delhi, July 25 (SO News/Agency) Congress on Monday strongly demanded that PM Modi should come to the Parliament to make a statement on the Manipur violence issue and discuss under Rule 267. The party says that Manipur will be cured only if there is a discussion under Rule 267. “Everyone wants a discussion on Manipur violence, but PM Modi is the only person who is not ready to discuss Manipur,” Congress said. The Prime Minister is afraid to make a statement and debate in the Parliament due to the massive failure of the Central and State Governments in the Manipur issue.
Earlier on Monday morning, Congress National President Mallikarjan Kharge, who was protesting against the Manipur violence in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the Parliament premises along with the parties belonging to the opposition alliance ‘India’, said that it is shameful that the Parliament session is going on and the Prime Minister is giving a statement outside the House. Kharge said that it is his duty to make a statement in the Parliament on Manipur violence. Opposition parties want a debate in the House under Rule 267, but Modi government ministers say there will be only a short-term debate. Others say there will only be half an hour of discussion. Under Rule 267, debate can go on for hours, voting can also take place, and that is what the opposition parties want. First there should be a full statement of the Chief Minister and there should be a debate in Parliament under Rule 267. The Modi government and the BJP cannot run away from their constitutional responsibility and accountability towards Manipur.”
Senior Congress leader Jai Ram Ramesh tweeted in this regard saying that Parliament could not function even on the third day of the Monsoon session. This happened because the government is not accepting the demand by the ‘India’ parties for a detailed statement from the Prime Minister on the situation in Manipur after May 3. India’s clear demand is that first the Prime Minister should make a statement in the House, and then debate it. Jai Ram Ramesh also asked the question, “Why is the Prime Minister running away from making a statement in the House?”
Another senior Congress leader KC Venugopal has also tweeted in this regard. “Parliament is inactive because the Prime Minister is afraid to face questions directly,” he wrote. He is avoiding entering the House of which he has been elected leader.” He further writes that “Manipur is facing a civil war, but the Prime Minister is hiding behind his subordinates. The entire nation mourns because they have allowed this crisis to spiral out of control and their silence at a time of such death and destruction is shameful.”
