Abu Dhabi: The UAE government delegation participating in the “United Nations High Political Forum on Sustainable Development” organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs from July 10 to 19, accompanied by Amna Zaal Al Muhairi, Consul General of the UAE in New York, met with Mayor Eric Adams to discuss opportunities for joint work and exchange of experiences in the sustainability of cities and urban communities, and activate best practices and successful experiences in accelerating the achievement of sustainable development goals.
The meeting, which took place in the Central New York City Hall, discussed prospects for cooperation and promising partnerships between the two sides, and learned about the pioneering experience of the UAE, in initiatives to empower communities with a cross-border developmental impact, or giant development projects aimed at accelerating and sustaining development, especially in developing countries, or knowledge exchange programs in best government practices, for development that includes future generations.
The Emirati delegation presented the path to achieving the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals locally and globally, and an overview of the projects implemented by the “Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives” in about 100 countries, and development programs based on financing assistance and soft loans provided by the “Abu Dhabi Fund for Development” since 1971, especially in climate-fragile societies, and the most prominent stations of the “Government Knowledge Exchange Program” that has been presented since its launch by the UAE government in 2018. Adams, who previously held the position of state senator, was introduced to the UAE’s business model based on cooperation, innovation and continuous development in policies, legislation, infrastructure, services and government plans for a sustainable future.
He also listened to an explanation from the delegation about the mechanisms employed by the UAE in activating the seventeenth goal of the sustainable development goals, which is based on building partnerships, and sharing the models of success recorded by the UAE with the countries of the world.
From Adams, the UAE government delegation learned about its activities in promoting economic growth in New York, enhancing safety and public health, and laying the foundations for a resilient city for the future.
The delegation invited the Mayor of New York to attend a number of prominent international events organized by the UAE, including the World Government Summit in Dubai.
