Bengal: State Congress chief Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary visited the late party worker’s house in Murshidabad district

Kolkata : Congress West Bengal unit chief Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary on Sunday visited the house of party worker Phulchand Shaikh in Murshidabad district, who was shot dead ahead of panchayat elections. Chaudhary also questioned Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s ‘silence’ on the incident. Family members of Sheikh (45) alleged that the Congress worker was attacked by Trinamool Congress (TMC) goons on June 9 when he was playing cards in Ratanpur on Friday. He was rushed to Kandy Hospital where he died during treatment.

Chaudhary also questioned Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s ‘silence’ on the incident. Family members of Sheikh (45) alleged that the Congress worker was attacked by Trinamool Congress (TMC) goons on June 9 when he was playing cards in Ratanpur on Friday.

However, the allegations were denied by the TMC. Chaudhary assured the bereaved family that his party would protest against the killing and demand justice. He said that the Congress will also demand police protection for the villagers as people are living in fear. The Congress leader claimed that after carrying out the attack, the criminals also ransacked Sheikh’s house. At the same time, local TMC leaders claimed that personal grudges were behind the murder. Meanwhile, the police said that one more person was arrested in this case on Sunday, taking the total number of arrests to three.
