Kolhapur returns to normal after violence: Tight security continues everywhere

 

Pune: Maharashtra’s Kolhapur, which witnessed violence, returned to normalcy on Thursday and it is learned that tight security has been maintained everywhere as a precautionary measure.

Reports said that internet services are being resumed at a slow pace as the situation is brought to light.

On Wednesday, Hindu organizations staged a protest against Tipu Sultan and Aurangzeb’s WhatsApp status with photo and audio. In this background curfew was enforced in Kolhapur.

Kolhapur Superintendent of Police Mahendra Pandit said that the situation has returned to normal and daily business transactions have started as usual.

Internet services were suspended till 10 am on Friday. It is said that it will take time to re-establish services.

Talking about the investigation of the violence case, some people have been identified in connection with the case. But, he is absconding. Footage from CCTV cameras installed in shops around the scene of the violence is being scrutinised. He informed that the process of identifying the suspects is going on.

As a precautionary measure, police personnel have been deployed at important places in the city. Police deployment continues at sensitive locations in Kolhapur city and district, with a total of 60 police officers. 300 other personnel are deployed for security in the city. More than 1000 Home Guards are patrolling the district. Besides, the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) has also been deployed, he said.
