Madhya Pradesh: Hijab controversy, case filed against school

Damoh: Home Minister Narottam Mishra said on Thursday that the Madhya Pradesh government has registered a case against a private school in Damoh district, which has been at the center of controversy for allegedly forcing female students to wear hijab-like headscarves as part of their uniform.

A case has been registered under IPC Sections 295(a) (incitement to religious sentiments) and 506b (intention to commit crime). Mishra, who is also the BJP spokesperson, told reporters that strict action will be taken based on the facts emerging from the investigation.

The education department last week suspended the accreditation of Ganga Jamuna High School in Damoh, 250 km from the capital Bhopal, after a poster of all girls, including Hindu students, wearing a hijab-like headscarf as part of their uniform went viral.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Wednesday that a high-level investigation has been ordered into the matter and strict action will be taken based on the facts.
