Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in Kerala and Lakshadweep over the next few days due to strong western wind blows from the Arabian Sea to southern Peninsular India.
The Met Office has issued a heavy rainfall warning for four districts including Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts, the Orange Alert has announced. Yellow Alert has been declared in all districts.
Fishermen on the coast of Kerala have been warned not to land at sea and floods along the coastal and hilly areas of the southern state. Heavy rains in Kottayam have disrupted life and the rivers are overflowing. Electrical wires are damaged and crop yields are destroyed.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretaries of Kerala Health Minister Veena George held a meeting with the Health Department on pre-monsoon preparations and instructed the District Secretaries to take precautionary measures in all districts.
