Rajiv Kumar appointed Central Election Commissioner

 

New Delhi, May 12 (IANS) The Law Ministry today announced the appointment of Rajiv Kumar as India’s new election commissioner.

Rajeev Kumar will take over as the new Election Commissioner of the Central Election Commission from May 15. Present Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra is to retire on May 14.

Sushil Chandra currently serves as India’s 24th Chief Election Commissioner. Sunil Arora, who was formerly head of the Election Commission, retired on April 12, 2021 after completing his tenure. Sushil Chandra has been serving on the Election Commission since February 15, 2019.

Kiran Rijiju tweeted about appointment of new Commissioner:

“In accordance with clause (2) of Article 324 of the Constitution, the President is pleased to appoint Rajeev Kumar as Chief Election Commissioner with effect from May 15, 2022. My best wishes to Rajiv Kumar,” Kiran Rijiju tweeted.
