Ticket price hike for some trains from April 15
Updated: Monday, April 4, 2022, 20:28 [IST] New Delhi, April 04; People have already been bothered by the hike in various commodities, including diesel. The price hike is now hot for rail commuters. With some trains expected to increase by April 15, travel rates are expected to rise.
Diesel engine powered trains traveling to faraway areas will increase. But suburban trains are obliged not to increase their fares.

Railway board officials have already instructed the zonal authorities to prepare a list of trains that will be powered by a 50 per cent diesel engine. Passengers who booked tickets before April 15 do not have to pay a higher rate.
Diesel and petrol prices have been rising since the beginning of the war between Russia and Ukraine. India is importing oil from Russia itself. Yet the oil trap has not been brought under control.
The hydrocarbon surcharge is to be used for the electrification works announced by the Indian Railways. Diesel prices will continue to rise and inevitably will be forced on commuters.
Preference for electrification; Indian Railways is working in Samarodipi to convert it into Green Railway. Stepping up to become a zero carbon emitter before 2030, electrification of the railway line is a priority.
Indian Railways is implementing a number of environmentally friendly measures, including large-scale electrification, water and paper conservation, and preventing injury to animals along the railway line. Electrification is given high importance to avoid the burden of diesel on the department.
Railway Broad Gauge plans to achieve 100 per cent completion by electrification by December 2023.
